UEFI prevents installing linux -
being belgian, laptops come windowstm pre-installed. ingnorantly, bought on thinking able install (k)ubuntu. found out uefi microsoft's way prevent doing this. stops booting usb or cd, not allow installing linux or anything.
i tried f2/f10 options , settings, disengaged security options, disabled secure boot, changed boot order, tried changing hd compatible laptop , running os, tried bang against head, nothing lets me install linux, says:"no bootable device found"
uefi dual booting linux , windows big tangled mess. i've pulled off ubuntu , fedora, after lot of effort. there lot of important variables here. i'm more able offer solution following info:
- which media using – usb or optical?
- how did create media? (e.g. pendrive, rawwrite, etc.)
- which laptop manufacturer? (this surprisingly relevant)
also, in long run if more insight specific uefis , start documenting issue more thoroughly. uefis embedded software typically written third-party companies insyde. can find yours installing windows system detailer speccy or hwinfo64. see attached screenshot speccy. info unlikely here , now, long-term: i'm looking create repository these uefi boot issues if hasn't done already.
