why store documentation in folder 'docs/' instead of using example confluence? benefit?

should documentation use syntax markdown or rst? formats such pdf, doc, rtf allowed , popular?

is there way push documentation using markdown syntax 'docs/' folder directly confluence?

the benefit of having documentation in docs/ folder ability view in browser in cases. main benefit of docs folder have files documentation organized, although use of folder depends on documenting. also, true whether pdf popular know when using software such doxygen documentation pdf useful, if documenting apis better have json file of documentation.
